Shooting Victim ‘Inadvertently’ Struck by Responding Chicago Police Vehicle

A man who was shot multiple times in the West Pullman neighborhood Tuesday afternoon was struck by a Chicago Police Department vehicle responding to the scene and later died, though his exact cause of death remains unclear.

According to police, the man was in the 12100 block of South Stewart Avenue when someone inside a dark-colored vehicle opened fire just after 2 p.m.

The man was struck multiple times and was lying in the street when he was “inadvertently struck by a responding CPD vehicle,” according to police. The man was pronounced dead on scene.

A weapon was recovered on scene, but no one is currently in custody, police said.

The man’s name and cause of death had not yet been released as of Wednesday morning.
